How to Pick the Right Cut Style for Your Song's Genre

A beat-sync template is only half the equation — the other half is cut style, which controls how aggressively and where the edit actually cuts relative to the music's structure. Picking the wrong one is the single most common reason a beat-synced video feels 'off' even when the BPM detection is perfect.

How to match style to genre
- EDM (120–145 BPM): Rapid or Energy — you want the cuts to intensify into the drop, not stay flat through it.
- Hip-Hop (80–100 BPM): Phrase or Bar — these genres are built on bar-locked structure, so cuts that respect the bar read as intentional rather than random.
- Chill / Lo-Fi (70–90 BPM): Flow — fewer, longer cuts match the genre's unhurried pacing; Rapid on a Lo-Fi track looks anxious, not chill.
- Pop / K-Pop (100–130 BPM): Bar or Phrase, switching to Rapid at the chorus hit — matches the genre's verse-to-chorus energy jump.
- Afrobeat (95–110 BPM): Bar — the genre's groove lives in the percussion pattern, and bar-locked cuts track that groove.
