Free Slow Motion Video Maker: Constant Slow-Mo or a Ramp Into One Moment
How to slow down a video for free — either the whole clip at a constant speed, or just one moment mid-clip using a speed-ramp curve.
Slow motion doesn't require having filmed at a high frame rate on purpose — a speed tool can slow down footage after the fact, down to a fraction of its original speed. There are two different ways to apply it, depending on whether you want the whole clip slower or just one part of it.
Option 1: Slow down the whole clip
- 1
Import your clip
Higher-frame-rate source footage slows down more smoothly, but any clip works.
- 2
Use Constant mode
Drag to a speed anywhere from 1/30× (extreme slow motion) up to 1×.
- 3
Preview
Check the result plays back smoothly.
- 4
Export
Render the slowed-down clip.
Option 2: Slow down for just one moment
If only part of the clip should slow down — the moment right before a key action, for example — Constant mode isn't the right tool, since it applies one speed to the entire clip. Speed's Curve mode does this instead: pick the Fast → Slow or Hero preset and the speed ramps down smoothly right where you want it, within a single clip, instead of cutting the clip into separate pieces at different constant speeds.
Don't forget the audio
Slowing a clip down shifts its audio pitch lower unless you mute it first. If the music matters, correct the pitch back afterward with a separate pitch tool instead of muting the clip entirely.
