Compress
Shrink a video's file size without a visible quality hit — including an HEVC mode for the best size/quality ratio.
What is Compress?
Compress reduces a video's bitrate and, optionally, its resolution — the two biggest levers on file size — so exports are smaller and faster to upload or send.
There are two independent modes, each with 3 presets. Bitrate mode keeps the original resolution and only reduces bitrate: Small (H.264, ~800 kbps, ~80% smaller), Balanced (H.264, ~2.5 Mbps, ~60% smaller), and Best (HEVC/H.265, adaptive bitrate, the best quality-to-size ratio of the three). Resize mode also downscales resolution: Small (480p, smallest file, good for messaging apps), Balanced (720p, accepted by most platforms), and Best (1080p HEVC, roughly 50% smaller than an equivalent H.264 file at the same visual quality).
The Best presets' HEVC (H.265) codec is the real differentiator here — most free 'compress video online' tools only offer H.264. HEVC keeps more visual detail per kilobyte, so a Best-preset export looks closer to the original at a meaningfully smaller file size.
How it works
- 1
Import the video
Any clip that's larger than it needs to be for its destination.
- 2
Choose Bitrate or Resize mode
Bitrate keeps the original resolution and only reduces bitrate. Resize also downscales resolution for an even smaller file.
- 3
Pick Small, Balanced, or Best
Small and Balanced use standard H.264; Best uses HEVC (H.265) for the best quality-to-size ratio in either mode.
- 4
Compare before/after size
Preview the size reduction before committing to export.
- 5
Export
Save the smaller file without re-recording anything.
Who it's for
Anyone hitting upload limits
Get under a platform's file-size cap without cutting content.
Slow-connection sharing
Send a lighter file over messaging apps that choke on large videos — the Small preset (480p, ~800 kbps) is built for this.
Archiving old footage
Shrink raw camera exports before long-term storage — the Best preset's HEVC keeps more quality per megabyte than a standard H.264 export.
